Any dedicated rope jumpers here? I was on a YouTube binge last night and came across the Jump Rope Dudes channel. Really interesting stuff.

I'd consider myself a pretty fit dude but I definitely have a few pounds to lose. Not skinny fat and am well proportioned all things considered. I'm not a big dude by any stretch - about 5'8 and currently 165.

About 8 weeks ago my girl and I embarked on a Crossfit-ish type plan involving lots of calisthenics with some uphill sprints, timed runs, etc. I was 177 pounds and my cholesterol was 206. Pulse 74. Currently my cholesterol is 164 and my pulse is 60. I just breathe easier.

I ordered a Crossrope Get Lean set (1/4 and 1/2 lb. rope) last night ($89 after the 10% discount) and am really excited. Yes, a relatively expensive rope but it's Veteran-owned (I always support fellow Vets) and highly reviewed. Going to challenge myself to jump rope at least 10 minutes a night for 30 consecutive days once it arrives in addition to my regularly scheduled workouts (5 days a week).

Anyone with lots of experience? Excited to improve my overall footwork, agility, VO2 max, and calf durability. I'm probably going to post weekly updates whenever it gets here for that month.

I've tried improving jump roping, but I'm apparently a spaz. Anything beyond the basic skip, and I fall to pieces. Plus it gives me horrible shin splints.

Let us know if you stick with it.

I did a 30 day jump rope challenge that looked easy on paper but really kicked my butt. My jump rope busted the last day so I ordered a new one but then pulled some tendons in the top of my foot while doing burpees - so now I gotta wait to try it out

Jump rope is awesome for endurance - my high school coach always made us jump rope and run stairs on conditioning days

That 1/2 lb. rope is no joke. It wears you out. It’s a great workout

I used to jump rope for cardio. I would do 24 minutes. Sets of 3 minutes with 1 minute rest in between. So 18 minutes of rest, and 6 minutes of rest. You definitely burn some calories.

So my rope arrived last Wednesday and save for a minute here or there trying to get my form and rhythm down, today was my first full-blown jump rope workout. All I did was the basic bounce with a 1/4 lb. rope and that's all I'll continue to do this week. Next week I'll start working on the boxer skip. I won't use the 1/2 lb. rope for another month.

So my starting weight is 161 and my waist size is 31 inches, and my size 31 jeans fit me very comfortably but I could use some room. I'll update my weight and waist weekly. I can donate blood again on 10/19 so I'll get my blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. verified then.

Monday AM: 30 minutes of 30 seconds on followed by 30 seconds off
Monday PM: 30 minutes of 30 seconds on followed by 30 seconds off

The PM workout was supposed to be uphill sprints at the levee, but the gnats were too bad so we just decided to do another round of skipping rope. I'll be skipping at least 30 minutes a day, as I've re-written my workout schedule to skip 30 minutes every morning. I may even bring my rope to work and skip for 10 minutes before I eat my lunch some days.

Some videos that helped me get my rhythm, timing, and technique down:

JRD: Correcting Beginner Jump Rope Mistakes
JRD: Hand Placement and Arm Extension

I had a ton of these errors going on with my form. I was double jumping bad and wasting energy. I'd be swinging my elbows around instead of just curling my wrists around and was jumping way too high.

very underrated workout

haven’t done so in a while but i would jump rope in between sets and i would count that as my cardio for the day

still do it but not as much as i’m always looking to try different things to add to my routines

Did that for my PM workout yesterday with the medicine ball. I was smoked at the end of the workout.

I'm the same way in trying to always add stuff, but I feel that jumping rope has a lot of variety to offer in and of itself and isn't monotonous like running. My girl gets bored with straight runs and this adds some flair to our cardio - or at least will when we're able to do more than a basic bounce for 30 seconds at a time.

I utilize the jump rope regularly and have for many years

Sometimes as a long cardio, sometimes as a way to get my heart rate up before I hit my circuit

Great workout

I'm not even going to front, jump roping is fun! Mixing up footwork and pace has done wonders for my timing and coordination as I feel very in tune to my body.

I started 2 Mondays ago at 165 lbs. 11 days later, without changing my diet or other planned workouts, and jump roping for at least 10 minutes a day, I am down 7 lbs and have no issues with my size 31 jeans squeezing my hips.

I'm not past the point of just doing the basic bounce yet. I've been trying to get the footwork down for the boxer skip this week but it doesn't look like it will happen this soon.

If you're looking for something to mix up your routine with, consider the Crossrope. I look forward to it daily.
