Starting counting macros about 2 months ago and dropped about 16 pounds. I am currently doing the 5/3/1 method, but I have noticed a regression on my heaviest lifts. I almost feel like I need to back it down a level. Is it common to lose some strength after 16 pounds or so?

When you start losing weight, it won't entirely be fat. You will lose some muscle as well, especially if you are dropping 2lbs per week on average.

Dial it down to 1lb per week by tweaking the macros.

Yes it’s normal. Don’t back it down. Keep the intensity high. You’re losing fat at a pretty high rate. If you want to retain strength/muscle slow down the fat loss. Your strength comes back pretty quick after you increase calories though

Yes, especially if you are still insulin resistant

Your body borrows insulin from muscle when insulin resistant

What are your protein macros? It should be close to 1g of protein per pound of body weight in order to minimalize the muscle cannibalization.

protein macros is at 193g. Initially bodybuilding website had me at 259g of protein. I was 246 when I started. I read something that said the protein macros should be based off lean muscle, not overall body weight, so that’s why I’m at 193g

Some will say go a pound of bodyweight but I think if you're over .8 which you are you are probably fine.

You have lost a lot of weight in a short period. Your body will adjust but it takes some time.
