Almost never.
Just train and go up in working weight consistently. Not with the risk of injury at 44.
I’m plenty strong snd don’t need to have an exact number.

When I first started, I checked monthly.
Now it's once or twice a year and I don't check for all exercises.

Never max out. Just doing slight increases in the weight until it feels like what i was previously lifting with the same sets and reps. This system works well for me.
Id hate to go for a 'max' and hear something pop or something like that.

That's why I avoid testing the max on squats.
On others like the chest press (machine), it's lower risk and I can measure against the strength standards for my age and experience level.

I've been doing 5-3-1 based programming for almost 15 years now, with multiple resets. There are weeks at the end of a 5-3-1 cycle where for the last 1 AMRAP I can only knock out 1 single non-spotted rep. Its the last set towards the middle/end of a workout, so not a true fresh max, but probably as close as I will get to trying a max lift.
Its also time for a deload/lower working max reset when I get to that point.
