Curious if anyone here had this issue come up, particularly after COVID.

About the third week after infection I started having what’s been classified as a histamine reaction after certain foods (almost always high histamine foods) and when I get hot. Facial/neck flushing, itching (only in facial area), and occasionally runny nose. Thankfully nothing at the level of anaphylaxis. H1 and H2 anti-histamines help some and the allergist has me on Xyzal at night, Claritin during the day, and Pepcid 2x a day. We’re talking about adding in Vitamin C and/or Quercetin since they are mast cell stabilizers.

My allergist believes I have lingering mast cell activation post-COVID and it will take time to calm down. Of course, you read anywhere like Reddit and folks get really hysterical about it so I try to avoid there.

So I just wanted to see if anyone experienced similar post-COVID (or other virus, though not as prevalent). What meds/supplements did you take? How long did it take to get yourself back to baseline?

I generally try to eat low-histamine but it’s a pretty restrictive diet and my allergist advised against doing it for longer than a couple of weeks.
