South Florida heat and humidity make zone 2 hard. I run 4-5 days a week and the only time I actually achieve zone 2 is when I run with my wife. No pics.
Yeah, summer zone 2 is balls. You end up walking.

And when you are doing 30 hrs a week the intensity of your training most certainly matters.

Problem is wrist based heart monitors are not reliable. I just run at a comfortable pace for easy runs, have never looked at heart rate.
Yep. Post-50, my “runs” are now: put on the hydration vest with electrolytes in the front pouches and water in the big bladder, grab the lightweight trail running poles, hit a mountain trail and just “zone” out. I’ll switch over to HR on my Garmin just as a directional check when I’m feeling a little winded and make sure I recover. But I’m mostly just jogging at a conversational (talking to trees and squirrels) pace.
I don’t know what it does for overall physical fitness, but it is way cheaper and more effective than therapy and pills.
Bonus—this guy was fighting with a gray fox squirrel on my last run. We had a talk about squirrel race relations.

Yeah if youre someone that gets that endorphin rush and it gives you that mental and general well being effect, absolutely. I think that is highly genetic though. I have never once got that
