Deload vs rest week?

Preferences? I feel like rest weeks are best in the long run but they always seem to set me back from a routine standpoint.

Sometimes you need a week off. Just depends on what you’re doing. For example, after my next comp, I’m taking a week off, a week doing nothing but mobility and recovery, then starting a new training cycle. Deloads are for during a training block. It really depends on how your program is designed.

I absolutely cannot do a true rest week. Taking time off kills my routine and I always feel like I lose a lot of strength/conditioning when trying to come back.
I do an active rest. If I’m not feeling the need for recovery, I might test my maxes. Ramp up a few sets, do 1 rep, and then be done.
If I need to recover, I’ll do a few sets at 50% but on every exercise I’d normally do during the week.
