Started lifting again after Covid and got bad recurring inflammation in my left shoulder. Got an X-ray done yesterday. Orthopedist says it’s a bone spur and would require surgery. Gave me a cortisone shot in the meantime. any experience with this?

What exactly does it feel like? Trying to decide if I have a bone spur or something going on with my rotator cuff.

Stay away from lifting and take Advil for a week or two. Do the drawing and pulling machine excercises like the “swinging gate” with your arm and elbow tucked in or see a physical therapist. I would not go leaping to a surgical option if this is the first time your shoulder has been incapacitated and an X-ray shows a bone spur. The bone spur may be impinging on the bursa of one of the tendons in your shoulder muscle and with physical therapy and the right exercises you might not need surgery.

See that's what I'm thinking. I've had the same feeling in my right shoulder which was bersitis. Same with my hip. It feels like my left shoulder has it but then at the same time there is a grinding when I rotate from the bone spur. I took a month off bc i got tendenitis in my right wrist which went away. But yeah going to try and lay off lifting that upsets it.

Not sure if they're all the same but when i roll my arm (softball pitching motion) you can literally hear grinding and feel it. But the pain is coming from inflamation. Which I think is bersitis. Evidently the spurs are very common. The ortho said look at Dwight Howard. You can see his protruding through his shoulders. But in rare cases they cause pain.

I had a bone spur in the groove where my bicep runs. I had surgery 7 months ago to remove it and had to cut the bicep and attach to humerus since it was shredded. Felt great after 4 months but then I over did it and tore my rotator cuff and labrum. Had surgery on that last Friday and going to rehab it very slowly.

Interesting. Well sounds like the surgery works. I'm just skeptical.

One of my sons had a large one and to ease any issues it required surgery.
