I agree. I don't think you should consider a program like Smolov until you're at that level.
Before that point, it just isn't necessary to drive gains. Risk/reward is unbalanced. IMO, that's when plateaus set in enough you need more specialized programs to break them.

Squat with bar on back and not neck. Go down below the usual sitting position.
I see people doing this at the gym from time to time and have zero clue how they survive.

I'm far better low bar. If your shoulder mobility is ok, you shouldn't have an issue. Low bar is much more natural for my body positioning, and the bar position winds up feeling much more secure.

It’s all in the technique

High bar feels more comfortable for me
It also helps improve Olympic lifts

Yeah, I don't do Olympic lifts.
I also have pretty long legs. I know people whine about genetics too much, but I think long femurs make a high bar squat difficult.
I have to get my knee in front of my toe, even low bar, to hit parallel. High bar, I need the knee well in front of my toe to have a shot at proper depth.

I’m lanky as well
Low bar just feels awkward and I don’t like leaning so far forward

Yeah, I just physically can't hit depth without getting my hips traveling back a decent bit. In high bar, that changes my back angle enough that the bar presses my neck. Even 135, I can't shake it.
Different strokes for different folks, though. Low bar is comfortable on my back because I have a fairly strong back and posterior chain. I figure that's why my deadlift is more than 100 pounds ahead of my squat.

i always arse to grass even with high bar, the more mobility i have gathered the easier is has been.
my back is stupid strong but i feel like a retard with no coordination using low bar

I focus on Ed Coan's "open the taint" cue for low bar.
