Over the past few months, I have basically watched this develop in my R foot. It doesn't hurt, isn't painful, but I see the big toe shifting inwardly and a bump pronounced on the metatarsal bone.

From what I read, these become painful and I'd like to stop mine from getting to that point. I'm active int he gym, biking, hiking 3-5x per week. When I observe my foot, it seems to be related to my arch collapsing which pushes the toes inward. If I hold my ankle straight, it's less pronounced. I read this may also be contributed by overpronation.

Does anyone have experience with this; shoes that may help, strategies, appliances? I'd really like to catch it before it becomes painful. In the past, I haven't found podiatrist to be very helpful so want to survey others.

Yes. It sucks. Shoes have made biggest difference for me. Quality, with room in toe box.

They have some contraptions and various remedy stuff online. I was using bunion booties (10yrs ago), but since I’ve been weary of shoes and looser socks, I’ve not had any issues. Bunion bootie can be worn with shoes. I would use those or those little toe spacers from Walmart.

Also, I never wear shoes or socks unless needed. Flip flops and barefoot around the house.

Flip flops are horrible for your feet, they make you use your toes in a weird way. Good sandals are much better, anything with a rear strap.

I’d definitely seek out minimalist footwear and do more barefoot activity

Interesting...I would have thought the opposite because my arch collapses when barefoot which seemingly thrusts my toe inward. Thanks!

As one of the previous posters mentioned, allowing your toes to splay and stretching them out may really help. Go easy and gradual.

There are a ton of routines you can find for fixing foot issues, I’ll see if I can find some I really liked.
