Anyone ever have a collapsed arch?Posted by tiggerthetooth

If so, what exercises did you use to build your arch back up?
Hopefully there are some success stories.
I'm not sure my arch is collapsed, but it seems to be and it really effects the way I step and as collateral my IT band and knee take on a bit more stress than they're probably meant to.

I have super flat feet, which inevitably internally rotates my knees. I tried a bunch of different things, but I haven't figured out a way to "rebuild" the arch.
Kelly Starrett has a few videos on this, but one thing you can do is make sure that you when you squat, you're "screwing" your feet into the ground and driving your knees outward. I also roll my feet with a lacrosse ball quite a bit.
I survived 5 years in the infantry and am still pretty active - flat feet aren't the end of the world. Just make sure you know how it affects your body and focus on those areas (IT Band, suprapatellar region).

Plenty of barefoot walking helped me, along with a set of exercises that the Power Athlete crew put out some time ago.

Interesting because I always thought walking barefoot would contribute to a collapsed arch.
