I want to bring my five year old but I need to still be cautious about the Covid so maybe next time

Thanks same to you!
I clocked in at 189 with the gi on.
I came in second, got choked in the championship round. I saw it coming but as soon as I escaped the mount he cinched it in. I didn’t feel overpowered or overwhelmed, I got tunnel vision and got outsmarted.

Congrats! I weighed about 175 lbs with the gi on and shorts on. I won my first match (9-0) but lost the next two.
I had the 2nd match but couldn't pull half guard in the last minute and he passed. He won 3-2.
I was lazy and tired for the last match. He got high mount with one of my arms above my head and he stretched me out. I tried to bridge out a couple of times but ended up tapping.
It was a good experience and am ready to do it again. I'm going to get back in the gym to lift and work more on my cardio. Also going to drop down to the 168 & under for the next one.

Congrats to both of you! I envy you being able to compete today. I'm recovering from surgery and Covid, but hopefully I'll be back on the mats soon.

Good job man.
I just looked at the results, apparently I was up 17-0 before I won by submission by armbar from the scarfhold position (honestly this is my best position)
I lost by submission in the second and was down 3-0 prior to that. he didn’t maintain his mount position long enough to score points. I got a little tunnel vision but man he was good and he was surprised I waited so long to tap. I guess that is his bread and butter move

How do you see the results, are they detailed?
I see the bracket who won but not the details.
I lost the second match 4-3, thought it was 3-2. That was the difference between finishing 1st or 2nd and no medal. That guy was a 4 stripe white belt, so I held my own. I was gassed for the last match and my opponent had more rest and was a quality guy. Hopefully working on my cardio and moving down in weight will help for next time. Plus I'll have more experience.
I won't be in town for the next one in October, so I'll have time to train and be better prepared for the next tourney that I enter.
Good luck in judo.
Maybe we should start a BJJ thread on here.

Yeah there were no details just points listed at the moment.
I’m happy with the outcome.
I think that’s a good idea and allows us to see what all of us are doing.
I know there’s a judo event called the presidents cup or something like that in Arlington in November. I may try it
I’ll probably bring my kiddo to watch the kids compete in October

My coach posted that they will load up videos and other details. Probably just a lot to do.
Should I call the thread something like:
Martial Arts Mega Thread
I could put in the first post it is open to talk about competing in tournaments, personal skill level, things we like/dislike, dropping in to other gyms while on the road, etc. Make sure we leave UFC discussion off since that can be done on the MSB.
I'm sure there are others here that do MA or may be interested. What do you think?

Yeah I think that’s a great title for it

Just check on my weight, I’m 179,
Think I’ll do no gi at 182, and gi at 182 instead of 195 At next months competition.

Just had my second competition 2 weeks ago.
Took home silver again.
I had a bad night of sleep the night before, my five year old was coughing too much, so I had two energy drinks throughout the day and I crashed after my first match.
I gassed out, I suppose it was due to the adrenaline with the drinks, I never had that problem prior and my weight was on point for the last 3 weeks to make the 182 weight class.
I’ll probably compete again in January

Thatd cool. Is there age ranges? How old are you and whTs the ages of the people you compete against?
Posted on 10/31/21 at 4:33 pm to diat150
Yeah competitions have adults age range 18-29
Then you have masters categories that are 30-35, 36-40, 41-45, 46-50, 51-55 and 56+ I believe and also different weight classes

I had to drop from World's due to work commitments, but I'm registering for IBJJF Nola open in February, so I'll be right there with you in cutting weight.
