Any experience with workers comp?

I hurt my knee getting out of my work vehicle last Tuesday.
8 days later I still have pain sporadically, where the C of the medial meniscus meets the MCL.
Finally got called today to schedule an MRI tomorrow. I was hopeful at first that I just tweaked it but it's seeming more like a tear in 1 or both now.
Im wondering how much of a headache I have ahead of me dealing with the WC claim and how likely they are to recommend surgery.
Worst case I suppose I could get my primary to move forward and use FMLA and STD for recovery.

Was it during work hours? If you have a full time company car and just hurt it while using the vehicle, but it was after hours, I'm not sure WC covers it.
Did you report it? If you haven't reported it yet, you need to to do so immediately. Otherwise, they may try to give you grief over it or claim you didn't injure it while at work.
You are allowed, generally (not sure what state you're in or your state's specific laws) to pick your own doctor. Your employer has the right to have you examined by their doctor too and if they doctor disagrees with your doctor's recommendations, then things can get a bit sticky.
But the most important thing to do now is to report the injury to your employer ASAP. If they question the delay in reporting, just tell them you didn't realize it that big a deal or that it would linger, but since it hasn't gone away, you released there may be more to the injury than you originally thought.

Yea. My HR basically demanded that I do a claim.
But from my experience thus far, once a local provider sees me it's waiting at the mercy of the WC rep to make a decision.
Im union and have been here 6 years so not really worried about the company taking care of things i just don't want to be waiting months for surgery if the MRI shows a tear or 2.

With this kind of injury, you're always looking at either re-injuring it or having it continually degenerate. If you file a timely claim for this, and you subsequently need surgery down the road, bringing in a claim for lost time benefits, you are ok . Not filing does nothing for you legally. Big thing is to not go to a whore doctor ( one who is regularly used by plaintiff attys) as you will not know if you are getting a true evaluation. Surgery is always something to be avoided if possible, definitely not right out the box. Get a doctor who is conservative & then if it develops you do need surgery, at least you will know you do.

They refused to do MRI due to clips in my skull. Waiting to get the MRI order changed to CT scan. I will def look at the imaging myself but if there's even a slight tear I think i would want corrective surgery.
HR says i have to do FMLA because they don't have enough light duty work for my restrictions.

Go talk to your rep.
