I imagine posting the final number on the following day is the best way. No point in giving updates throughout the day, but I'm sure it'll happen to keep people motivated

Not much of a challenge. I can do 400 in sets of 50 with my feet on a desk. Can do more than 100 without stopping for the APFT. The endurance builds quickly but there's no point unless you combine it with weight lifting if you really want to build lasting results.

Hardly. I work with an NCO that does these monthly "challenges", different one every month with little to nothing to show for it so far. Only value in doing that many push-ups is building back in some endurance or prep-work before going back to weights after some time off. You use about 60% of you total body weight with a standard push up and maybe 74%-75% with your feet raised 36". That's like benching the bar and two plates for a 200 lb person.

Anybody said how we go about keeping track of this?

Everytime we posts a number the OP records it?
Only post the entire days number?
What's the consensus?

You can post into the thread as much as you want with your daily numbers. ie

8/1/14 - 333
8/2/14 - 350 etc.

I'm planning on updating the spreadsheet daily, and posting the daily total and total for the month in the OP every day. Im going to post the spreadsheet into dropbox on even days. That should give enough time for people to get their numbers in that want to.

In list updated thru here

I'll do it. It should tone out my arms from swimming and balance out my cycling thunder thighs

Why do you do so many? They max out at 77. You're wasting your energy after that. I know because I always max out pushups and situps in APFT, but I suck at the run so I pace myself through them.

Do SEAL pushups, stop at the top for 30-60 seconds. You will get strong as shite.

Yep working isometric holds into your routine really reaps results. I like doing pull-up holds ten seconds sets of ten.

Just because. If I stop when I hit max I have more than a minute left and it's not like it's that much of a strain. I max situps too and always do extra. I hate the run too and I don't max it (yet) but I'm working on it so I don't have to hate it quite so long...
