Golf is one sport where the perfect game is not even close to being achievable. You could shoot 56 and still have left shoots on the course...

Your story sounded exactly like the guys a was playing with. He broke 80 for the first time in his life. Funny enough I played Irving today and shot +3 74. I finally caught it on a day with no wind so the blues were playing really easy. Something I'll probably never do again

Shot an 89 Saturday, down from a 92 on the same course last weekend.

My ballstriking has improved a ton, but only sometimes. Chunked a few approach shots, but hit some flush and got my GIR number up. That’s the frustrating part for me. Too many wasted shots. When I know I have good shots in me and chunk one 30 yards I want to break my clubs. Improvement is improvement though. 185 yard par 3 on 18 I stuck it about 12’ with a 6 iron. Always nice to finish with a par.

So if you are chunking a few approach shots but still hitting the ball better that indicates to me you are at least striking the ball how you are supposed to instead of scooping it off the grass. Those chunks will continue to decrease as you play more.

My best rounds are usually followed by a horrible round. I play a great round and it goes to my head. the next time I play I act like I'm freaking Tiger Woods. I'll just draw this around the trees and let it run up the side of the green missing both bunkers from 180 out.

I had a very frustrating and enjoyable golf experience on one hole last week. Hit a horrible drive that went about `180 and landed under a huge oak tree right by a sand trap. My lie was on dirt. I was very frustrated and said screw it. I got a 4 iron out and smoked it. I couldn't see the shot so I asked my son who was in the middle of the fairway and he said, On the green. It went 220 yards and landed on the green. An absolute perfect shot ending up 3 yards from the pin. Of course, I just missed the putt.
