Ugh, there is a Australian PGA Tour and a PGA of Australia. Interesting he didn't single them out...

Using your logic why should they be paying the purses of European Tour events?
The answer is because gold is a global game and some of its best players are from Australia. The Tour wants to continue to attract the best players and Australians want an opportunity to watch the best players in the world in their country.
