When I actually not that good myself. I guess I’ll start him on a 7 or 9 iron. This will be at a driving range. I have a hard time switching to a driver and a 7 iron. He just got his own clubs for his 7th birthday. I know the basics. That’s what he will get.

Good call.

Let him swing.
Some basic setup and grip advice and let him swing.

He will find his own swing.
Have a slushee.
I’m sure he will have fun.

whatever you do, make sure to tee up every shot he takes. Nothing demorilazes a young person from the game of golf like not being able to get the ball airborn.

Tee it up and let him try to rip the cover off the ball; encourage every shot or every other one and don't try to "FIX" his swing...There is nothing there to fix since it's his first time and he doesn't know what you are going to be saying.

Teeing it up for the irons is actually good advice for anyone who’s making a big swing change.
