So little backstory. I've played golf off and on for about 3-4 years. Probably average of once a month, although I've been playing a lot more lately.

I had never really played golf in my life when I started. I just kind of stumbled upon the game and loved it. Bought a used set of clubs and went on playing from there. When I started I really had nobody to teach me anything, so I was just kind of learning as I went. Had an old man that used to play at the same time as me at a club I used to be a member at. He attempted to give me pointers, but they weren't really helpful. I've watched a lot of videos on YouTube to try to figure out things I may be doing wrong, but it hasn't helped much.

I've shot in the 90's twice in my life. Other than that I'm usually around 110. I know it sucks, but I enjoy playing. If I'm going to keep playing I figured I should try to pick up some good habits and make playing more enjoyable. Golf is literally the only sport I've ever played where if I didn't just naturally improve as I played more. That's very frustrating, but also challenging which keeps me going back.

So I broke down after my last round and got the lessons. Anybody was in a somewhat similar situation as me and took lessons with David Gary? What should I expect? How much should I hope to improve? I got the package of 4 lessons from him, by the way.

David is a really nice guy. If you’re shooting 110, expect him to change your swing. It will feel weird, but that’s because you’re doing it the right way. Practice what he teaches you between lessons. Lessons are not a cure all. You have to do your homework. Just relax and be open to change. You are not the worst golfer he has ever seen, just swing normal and let him fix it. The more you jaw jack with him, the less time he is fixing you. Shut up, listen, and swing.

Yeah I'm going to take what he says as the gospel. Whatever I am doing is obviously wrong. Just hope I can retrain my mind to swing differently. I've been doing things so wrong that they are probably locked in my brain.

Don't expect a complete fix , at least for a year. It takes lots of incremental improvements.

From my own experiences, practice diligently and specifically. But don't practice after you're tired. Hitting more balls just to hit balls leads to different bad habits. Only practice when you can devote maximum concentration and effort on each swing

He will most likely give you some drills that will ingrained the swing thought. I still imagine a glove in the ground behind the ball when I swing. Things like that will help you. Just work at it.

I'm just hoping I can get more consistent with shooting in the 90s, with at least some knowledge on how to keep improving if I keep working at it.

Took my first lesson today. Putting/chipping/pitching. You guys were right, he is an extremely nice guy. I went in trying to forget everything I thought I knew and soaked in everything I could. He gave me stuff to practice on each of the three things that I can do at home. Great stuff so far.

Today's stuff was probably the best part of my game (which isn't saying much because it's not good by any means). I doubt I come away from my next two lessons when we back up quite as confident.
