I have heard Squire is awesome, but what about Calvert?

Two totally different experiences.
Squire Creek is upscale country club experience with awesome facilities but you pay for that experience. The course deserves its excellent reputation.
Calvert Crossing is a comfortably moderate country club where you miss a few of the nicer things as to the facilities or the course, but it is still a good golf experience. About two years ago the club went with the Honours Golf/Troon Golf management company and things have continued to trend positively since that move. Membership is up and the course conditions have improved dramatically. The course is a challenge that can bruise your ego pretty quick if you are not careful. (It’s probably pretty clear, but I’ve been a member at Calvert for many years)

Calvert is absolutely the best bang for your buck in the Ouachita Parish area, lot of variations in elevation, course is kept in good shape, and the club house is nice. I'm a huge fan of Calvert but you can't compare the two courses. Squire is the nicest in the area, the club house is upscale with all the amenities of your finest restaurant, the carts are GPS, the course was designed by Tom Fazio... but it's 100x the cost. You get what you pay for.

Are you playing in the the Spook tomorrow?

Thanks for the info. We just got back from Old Waverly and Mossy Oak. Both are fantastic layouts. We did Steelwood a couple of years also; also a great golf trip venue.

Can't play in the Spook Hollow tomorrow. Hate I'm going to miss it since it was fun last year. I've got family plans and my wife made it clear that I needed omit any thought of golf from my mind this weekend. She doesn't play that card often, so I have to respect it when she does.

In that case there’s no sense in getting put in the doghouse for a little one day scramble. I didn’t play last year but just became a member last April. Hopefully it didn’t get too wet today, gonna try and give em their Monies worth tomorrow.

The Spook Hollow Hoax is the club’s version of a “superintendent’s revenge” . . . expect to see some weird stuff with the course setup.

I really like Calvert's course - have been thinking about joining there for some time.

I don’t know your age but they have a membership drive usually in the spring that is a great deal. Got my initiation fees waved and it’s a locked in rate for two years.

Probably going to try & play it next time I’m up there for work.
Would I need my Pro to call to get me on or is the public welcome?

They are usually pretty accommodating if you are playing during the week, but the weekend they may require your pro to call. Personally, I’d play it safe and have the pro call either way. Hope you enjoy your round.

The head pro there is as cool as the other side of the pillow......just call....they will get you on the course.
