I can only seem to hit my driver well when my plane is very shallow. Do you usually bring your club more upright on the driver and then dry to shallow it out on the way down?

Sometimes I feel like my swing plane is almost too horizontal. Does that make sense?

My driver has been more shallow than other clubs, but I have been working on swallowing all of my clubs to help with arthritis pains. Less ground impact that way, and any impact isn't as violent.

I can hit all my irons... not always well but I get the idea. The driver is a mystery

In general, a flatter plane with driver will create less backspin so that is a good thing IMO.

You are describing a “loop” where you initially take the club outside, and then drop it in the “slot” In The transition. Furyk’s swing demonstrates this to an exaggerated degree. I like the idea because it makes it almost impossible to “come over the top.”

Biggest thing on tour is shallowing the club shaft on the start of the downswing. Gives more consistent contact. The best ball strikers on tour are excellent at shallowing the club.

Shallow is good. Shallowing also opens the clubface so you may have to make some other adjustments with wrist conditions, grip, etc.

Or should the take away/backswing and downswing just be shallow together?

Certainly there are very good players who take the club back and through on same plane.

I struggle a bit coming over the top so I like to loop it outside on backswing, and then drop it in the slot.

Whatever works is what each golfer should do.

Some days it’s so easy to find the slot and swing.
Some days the golf swing is a mystery.

Nearly every good player in the world shallows the club to some degree on the downswing, it's literally the magic move in golf.

It seems to be working for me. I guess I just see tiger and like, Fred couples bringing that club super high with their left arm almost pointing straight up as opposed to back. And THEN somehow getting back into the slot.
Can y’all think of any pros who stay on plane so I can google their moves?
