San Diego Courses

Planning to head to LSU/UCLA game Labor Day weekend but stopping in San Diego first. Thought we had Torrey Pines lined up when we called 2 months ago but they are all booked up now for those dates. Any recommendations as to what other course we can try instead now?

Maderas was a fun course, several blind tee shots, lots of elevation changes. Not an ocean side course like Torrey pines but more mountainside.

Go up to Newport Beach and play Pelican Hill if you want a Torrey like experience.
Or if you want to stay in SD - try Aviara in Carlsbad or stay at the Fairmont grand Del Mar and play the course there. Zander and several other pros practice out of that course. Expensive but worth it.
As previously noted Maderas isn’t bad, but is inland.

I think Torrey allows early am walk-ups before official tee times start. I’m pretty sure that’s how I played it when I was out there for my wife’s work convention. You shouldn’t give up on Torrey..it’s incredible. Also, if you are adventurous, do the paragliding at the facility right next door to Torrey.

Yes this is what I was telling my buddies we could try and do. Show up very early before they open up and wait. I am sure they can squeeze us on one of the two courses that day!

Coranado Muni is awesome. And you get sick sight lines to all the fighter jets and military planes coming into the base.
But you have to figure out how to play Torrey.
It pissed rain on us and was 50 degrees for 15 holes and it was still amazing.
