He made up for it with a dart from the bunker. Just left it short.

Definitely goes to show the US needs to work on the team aspect of it. That’s what killed them.

Captains just don’t seem to know how fourball works. You need players that complement each other, I’ll use English for example. (This years stats)

304 avg drive
61.4 FIR
66.1 GIR
3.5 birdies per round (worst on the team)

Does this look like a guy you want playing fourball?

Or this guy

305 avg drive
61.0 FIR
69.0 GIR
4 birdies per round?

You can pick one to pair with this guy

308 avg drive
63.0 FIR
71.4 GIR
4.7 birdies per round

Which do you take?

Agreed

Yeah you really have to spend time on teams that complement each other. You can’t have two guys together that have similar strengths and weaknesses. Regardless of how good they are individually.

Hell not getting swept on day 2 is a must. Especially after a shitty day 1.

Another 1/2 point day one and a points 2 day two and it’s a much different outcome with today’s play.

That said, golf is a weird sport. But the US shouldn’t have been down 7 points down to start day 3

Should make the Zurich mandatory for Ryder Cup qualification. Gives the Captain another look at the players team game and us a better field to follow.

Step one would be moving its date so it isn’t sandwiched in between and around so many signature events

Honestly that’s not a terrible idea for the US team… Euro guys seem to have the advantage in team play.

100%. Kinda sucks where it is on the schedule. Because on top of the weather teetering beautiful or horrendous (because that our only options in La that time of year) not pulling in guys that have a real shot at making the team because of other events is a detriment to the tournament

I would pair players with similar styles.

In my example player 2 was Spaun to pair with Scottie. Why?

Similar driving distance, similar shot shape, both are good at putting the ball on the green, and most importantly both have had serious pressure situations.

In alternate shot they’re comfortable hitting the ball into the same areas, same angles of attack to the pins.

Henley was one of the worst possible options. His shot shape is different, he’s 20-25 yards shorter off the tee. Some courses that would not matter, this one clearly did. Initially I thought it might be good, after day 1 I looked at the stats and was appalled.

It’s counterintuitive, but I think the analytics suggest you put weaker players in the alternate shot format, as you can control the types of shots they hit based on the tees and hole length, and the fact that they are playing far fewer shots. I think we will get the analysis on this and it will be about how incredible Europe was in day 1 in 3 of the sessions. They were simply incredible. The US showed they are the better individual players, like usual, but it was too little too late
