playing both courses in May on my first trip to San Francisco. Will be renting clubs for the first time. Are most rental clubs in good condition/decent clubs? Also anyone play either course before care to share their experiences?

At respectable places yes. Hell, even the Wetlands in Lafayette has AP1s.

If you can swing standard size clubs, you will be fine.

Look into some third party rental companies in the area. Usually they have a good selection of contemporary options and they can deliver to hotel or club

Have played both and I actually really enjoy the Ocean course. Don't think it's as hard as the Old Course but it is always in good shape, has great views and is just all around an enjoyable round. If you play it in the afternoon/evening on a clear day, you will get an unbelievable sunset.

I played there 2yrs ago...but I only played the Ocean Course. I like it better than Pebble.

Use shipsticks.com instead of renting some.
