Anyone catch any of the PGA or Web.com coverage this past weekend? The cameraman walked out and left a skeleton crew of non-union camera guys. It definitely changed the broadcast as they had a lot of cameras not in use.

In a normal broadcast, after the drive there is a camera that follows the ball and then pans out to where it's landing. In this weekends' broadcast, there was a camera that would show the drive and then it wouldn't cut away until another camera found it which was typically after it had already landed. There was a lot of shakiness in the cameras and sometimes some really bad zooming.

Yep

The Golf Channel is a mess right now. The camera crews have no medical insurance.

Starting to think that Michael Breed saw some of this coming before he refused to extend his contract.

Fly out to Hawaii and strike. Seems like a smart decision. But then again they think a union has their best interest at hand.

PGA may say frick you, find your own way home. Last minute flights from Hawaii to mainland aren't cheap, especially for someone that is under strike.

If they were really smart they would have done it before a major.

They've been trying to get the deal done since last year. Deadline had been extended and both sides thought they'd get it done.

Strike started midnight Saturday night.

Sides aren't that far apart, but the vote wasn't close. Union voted overwhelmingly to walk.

I've done some work for GC, and have to pay union dues those weeks I work for GC. My inbox has been loaded with contract talk info for months.

Does TGC televise any Thursday/Friday rounds of a major?

In what capacity? I've done some work (spotting/scoring) for just about every network that televises golf and never had to pay union dues.

I don't think spotters/scorers are part of the union, but I could be wrong.

Camera guys, audio techs, parab ops, grips, and general utilities are in the union. Those are the jobs I've done.

I'm a broadcast associate with IBEW, not IATSE. Could be a reciprocal union thing going on as well, but I don't pay all that much attention.

As long as I'm paid decently and the dues aren't oppressive, I just go to work and say "Thank you.".

Like I said, the sides aren't that far apart, but I think part of the problem is union contracts with CBS, FOX and other networks are better than what GC offers. GC doesn't have the budget those networks do, so I see that side as well.

I freelance. I am not under contract to any one company, and I don't want to be.

Been laid off half a dozen times in my life. Never again will one company determine my future.

I work for whoever wants my services. Takes more legwork to fill in the calendar, but I am at the point where I can turn down what I don't want to do. Years ago, I took some real crappy jobs for little pay. Not any more, thank God.

How much work have you done for CBS. I worked The International @ Castle Pines for Chuck Will from 1991 until the tournament ended. I've also worked majors for NBC & ABC that have been held in Colorado.
