Is this course still open and is it decent? It’s probably been 20 years since I’ve played it. I remember it being a significant upgrade over the city park courses of the time. Just curious what happened to it.

I wrote this in a recent thread. I grew up playing out there and has been my “home course” off and on for 20 years. There’s been a new change in ownership and Justin is much better than the previous owner. With that being said it’s time for everyone to accept the “New Oak Harbor”. It will most likely never be what it used to be. The previous owner really let the course go and honestly it would take a ton of money to get it back there. Greens are pretty and roll true but are terribly hairy and slow, fairways are nice but rock hard, bunkers are either overgrown with grass or concrete. You hit it in a bunker you might as well take a drop out of it. Still imo one of the best layouts in this area but all in all the course conditions are mediocre. Just my 2 cents!

It's in much better shape now than it was before Justin took over. The greens are nice, but slow. I don't understand why they can't seem to get them rolling faster. Fairways have definitely gotten better over the past couple years, but still hard and thin in many spots.

I worked there for 3 years in early 2000s. We had horrible water quality issues for irrigation. Unless this has changed, it will always be a limiting factor in proper turf grass management.

Used to be a member and most that has been posted I agree 100%. The sand and fairways are inconsistent - you may get a tight fairway lie and some bunkers are borderline hardpan. The greens are way too slow but they do hold approach shots well, so there's more scoring opportunity. If you are willing to manage those factors in terms of your expectations you'll have a great time.

Pros:

It's by far the best golf experience in Slidell (not saying much obv.).

For the money, the best public course in the Northshore in terms of layout, landscape, fun factor, and overall challenge.

The new owner is fully committed and invested in the club's success.

Played this past weekend. Greens roll true and fairways are very firm. Definitely have to be accurate off the tee, not bad for $31 twilight rate

I played this weekend and honestly it’s my last time playing there. Greens run about a 6 on scale, fairways are hairy, traps are unplayable, and tee boxes were overgrown.
