Is anyone familiar with Vieux Chenes?
If so, can you shed some light on the group that plays there, "The Gators."
They seem to run the entire course. They have their own tee times (exclusive to them), they play as many people as they want to in their groups (excessive numbers), they play at a very slow pace without warnings, etc.
I'm trying to understand who they are and why they are allowed to do this.

Contact Gerald Boudreaux. Good luck getting a call back. Or try the head cheese at the course

They are a group that have been at LVC for decades. Good luck getting them to do anything for you about them.

Well, of the places I usually play at, the course was fine. I've played at Farm once, but that was because I took lessons there. I normally play Crowley, Abbeville, Muny and I played Branch a few times (when the others were too wet). Of all the places, Crowley has the best staff and I've never once run into the crappy people you see at all of the other places (and they have the best burgers).

If food makes a golf course better for you, the boneless wings in Abbeville are pretty damn good too. So is the shrimp wrap.

You’d be surprised what I would put up with when I have cold beer and good food

I do want to make the trip down to abbeville just to see how it’s shaping up. I’m going to wait for the first real green up though.

Played there this weekend, so what's cool is that you can rent a scooter if you want to. The scooters were all rented out when I showed up. The course isn't in the best condition at this moment. Seems like the large amount of rain has hampered some of there progress. The greens were in decent shape though.
Wondered if anyone had any interaction with the pro there, when my buddy went play he said he wasn't too pleasant to deal with

Chappy, I played VC a few weeks ago and 13 & 14 were virtually unplayable. Not sure since it has dried out if it has gotten any better.

Always preferred Muni on the weekends mostly b/c you couldn't get on VC early b/c of the Gator club and the people that played early were nice. For some reason a few of the gator club guys have a higher opinion of themselves from the interaction that I have had with that group. But a few of the guys are cool and like to drink beer.

Cane Row is turning it around, course is looking better

And they just spend a ton of money right in that area.

Is it one of those "hover board" style scooters? that sounds really fun.

It seems to be a mixed bag with him. Sometimes he is super nice. Other times he seems very stand offish. Guess it just depends.

Yeah, the rain has really hit the course hard. A few holes were basically a swamp for about 2-3 weeks. It's a good sign that they seem to be trying to fix it. Bad part is that the fairways are a little rough during the process.

The scooters seem pretty cool. I've never used them (I usually walk). Doesn't seem smart that they are charging $20 for one, when a regular kart is $15. Not sure it's worth the extra money, but if people are using them then I guess they are.

heard the same not the best look for a golf club that's looking to attract golfers imo.

Yeah a few of the fairways were rough Sunday, I walked the course as well. the scooters were all rented out, seems like a cool idea and if they are being rented regularly then that's great.

do you know if they still do the Thursday afternoon scrambles there?

I'm not really sure. I have a calendar with a list of events, but they only have the stuff they are doing in the club house on them.

The rest of the staff is absolutely awesome. Not a single complaint about them. The owner is also very visible. I've seen him out helping work on the course himself pretty often. The pro has been pleasant 95% of the time. That 5% could ruin it for somebody though.

I was playing with two guys from Kaplan one weekend and they had one of those 5% experiences with him. They came back and told me, "See, this is why we play in Crowley." So yeah, the little things like that could cost them in the long run.
