Is he still the mathematical wizard the PGA was pimping a few years ago?

His body wasn't geared to handle the stresses he placed on it - IYKWIM.

quote:Technology has really revolutionized the driver. I remember the first “oversized” drivers and how much of a difference they made over persimmon. Todays drivers are probably 40 yards longer than ones built in 1950.
It is crazy that IF you can hit it 290 on average, you are “short.”
I was a plus handicap in those days, I gained a lot off the tee and par 5’s got easy. Could just overpower short courses.
But yes, short par 3’s with trouble in the right places will always give players fits. I saw a technical analysis of #12 and the landing area on the Sunday pin is something like 7 yards long for a right handed player due to the dispersion pattern. Lefties have an easier time on that hole.

I believe it was My Golf Spy that did the analysis, but basically, since the mid 90’s, golf ball technology is worth about 10-15 yards and driver tech is worth another 15 or so yards. Then factor in higher swing speeds and you have this 40-50 yard difference.
