Many many players do. Really the only one I know that admits they DONT replace often was Vijay Singh. He said he would keep irons until the grooves were gone. Guess how long that was? 6 months.
At the other end of the spectrum is Phil. He would replace clubs on a weekly basis for a variety of reasons.

Ironically my wedge game is probably the best part of my game (minus bunkers where i’m not particularly good). My 60* is my best and favorite club. I use it more than any club in my bag and regarded as the guy who will always chip it close or chip it in. And no I’m not a fantastic putter, but I do average less than 2 putts per hole (I think 34/35 per round when I was still tracking it). It is the mid/ longer game that does let me down. I don’t hit a ton of GIRs and just cuz I’m hitting it 300 doesn’t mean I’m always in the middle of the fairway. Plus I’m dogshit with a 3wood. So instead of birdie looks, I’m scrambling for par looks etc. just adds up.
I know it’s getting off topic, but I think I’m just your standard average (or above average I guess since 80s isn’t average) golfer that doesn’t cheat and putts everything out. I think if everyone putted until their ball was in the cup, and didn’t take sketchy drops or questionable reliefs, foot wedges etc. that those “70s players” would be 80s players too. I think if you’ve EVER given yourself a putt, then you should be barred from ANY discussion about score. Period. Your idea of score is irrelevant. Sometimes I’ll miss a 2 foot tap in being careless, or get a shitty lie on a root behind a tree or whatever. You play it honestly and they add up.
I get a kick out of dudes that like miss a 3ft putt four feet past the hole, and then give themselves the comebacker even though it was just as long if not longer. Like I just saw you miss a short putt
Or the guy whose like “I was waiting for someone else to say ‘don’t bring your putter’” like MFer I don’t care what number you put on your card. I’ve just never thought of ever “giving” someone a putt because I personally would never move on to the next hole until my ball hits the bottom of the cup of the current hole.
Just funny to me that whenever I play with “70s guy” or a single digit, that they magically happen to have a bad day that day and shoot in the 80s. I played three times with a 4hdcp from work, beat him every single time and never broke 80
Another time I played with a dude about my level, held the tee box every single hole 1-18 and at the end he goes “man you had a hell of a round what’d you shoot 72” and I said no (I can’t remember my score think it was like an 84) and he goes no you couldn’t have cuz you had honors every hole and I shot a 79 you must have counted wrong
 But that happens a lot people see me on the range, or play with me, and assume I’m a single digit. But when I tell them I’m a 14-15 (lowest I ever got was a 10) they assume I’m a shite putter or wedge player or something and that just isn’t the case. It’s just hard to break 80 playing honest golf. I’ve only done it one time and I was embarrassed to even tell my buddies cuz it was only on like a 6100 yard course.
I think it’s just a mix of people not playing 100% honest. Playing really easy/short courses (I play between 6800-7100 and like to have a slope rating in the high 130s 140s) or just embellishments. Like I said I know good golfers exist. I know dudes shoot even par, in the 70s, there’s obviously pros and people shooting under par etc. But despite playing like all over CA and playing probably a couple hundred rounds over the last 8 years. I’ve honestly just never played with someone who legitimately shoots that low. It’s crazy to me.
Anyways back to the iron covers. I do seriously love mine. To the other idiot I thought was being sarcastic- tour players change their wedges at LEAST 3 times PER SEASON. Some players (I think Rory is one) change their wedge EVERY TOURNAMENT. So yea, I’m not gonna be buying new clubs like that. I’m keeping my shite looking nice. My clubs really do look nearly brand new and like I said I’ve played hundreds of rounds since I’ve got them. Plus even without that benefit of keeping them in good condition, I personally think they look cool. My bag just looks nice and uniform. I’d recommend them 10/10

Personally I don't care for them, but last long road trip I was on i had my clubs.. Damn near bought some to cut down on the damn clicking..
Also when I play a round.. I typically leave all the covers off of my clubs b/c they're a pain in the arse to take on and off everytime.. Putter especially
