How’s Lakewood in New Orleans?

I haven’t played there in years. I remember it being a decent track though. We’re looking to put together a little tournament for around 50 or so golfers that will be attending an annual meeting in New Orleans in February of next year. We have typically played golf at TPC but they have gone up on their rate substantially over what we have paid in previous years. We called Lakewood and they gave us a really fair rate but I just don’t know what conditions to expect there.

We also checked with English Turn but they are not available for the day we need. We can’t get anyone at Bayou Oaks to actually call us back.

Any advice appreciated or other suggested courses in the area.

Loss thousands of trees and easy golf course that is very playable for all handicaps. Much better for a group that size.

We played a few weeks ago and they had hardly mowed recently. If you missed the fairway by even a little, it was an extended ball search and you were lucky to find it. They’ve basically given up on a bunch of the bunkers too. It was pretty sad to see. Always enjoyed playing there.

Played there recently and It’s not good.

Sad to say that there are not many good options in the city. I would just pay what TPC is charging. It’s really the only public or semi private facility in the area that is in decent shape.

Check out Timberland, heard it was in good shape and they do a good job with hosting tournaments. Also Bartholomew is another option. It's a shame about Lakewood, I like that course and it was always in great shape.

Bayou oaks south is in great shape. Hopefully Audubon continues to improve and get back to where they were pre Covid. English Turn was also in good shape last time I played out there. Other than that though it’s slim pickings.

sorry to hijack, but have they made solid improvements? It has so much potential. Hope they are doing well.

If so, Audubon would be a fun option.

Played it last week. Greens are fine, just dry and firm. The rest of the course is rough shape.. Bunkers are baked or dirt. Some areas the rough hasn’t been cut in a while. Driving range stations hasn’t been moved while.
