1. Do you place the driver at address?
2. Do you place an iron at address?
3. Do you place the putter at address?

I set up with driver well behind the ball.
With irons I’m very close to golf ball at address.

I’ve been working on a putting setup with a gap between ball and putter head at address. Feels like the back swing is smoother.

Just interested in IF any of you set a club with a gap behind the ball at address with any club.

Yeah? But do you rest or hover your driver at address?

That's the big question!

What are some advantages of this?

For me:
With driver, I feel like I’m able to deliver the club flat to up when I set up behind it, but I’m like 3-4 inches off the ball.

With putting, I feel like that part of the backswing is already in place and I’m less likely to decel. I’m at least an inch back at setup.

Driver - feet together with ball between them, then trail foot and driver go 1 step away from target. So, pretty far behind the ball.

Irons - same but equal steps for front foot and back foot. I don’t ground the iron and I get my lean from preloading the weight on lead foot.

Putter. Front foot takes step forward and to the left (open stance) and trail foot stays square. Putter right behind ball.

Very close on all three. Do my waggle and rest the woods/irons on the ground behind the ball for probably a second then start my swing. At one point years ago I tried to hover the club without resting it before starting my backswing and I really disliked it. Felt like I was falling backwards/kept me from staying down on the ball. Wasn't quite as bad with my driver but it was awful for my irons.

I dunno, feels right is all i got.

As far as the putter goes in the sub 15 foot range I have a pretty consistent stroke. Back and through as close to exactly the same as I can.
