I saw that they were still without a sponsor. Anyone heard any rumblings about who might possibly be in the running? Love the tournament and the course.

I wonder if the tournament being moved to later in the spring - possibly May - has anything to do with it?

Where do you see it being moved? I had heard United, but who knows.

I know the Valero is taking the week before the Masters starting in 2019, and I read somewhere about May being considered probably due to the Players getting moved.

Unless there are some serious renovations, it can never be held here. Doesn't even have close to the infrastructure required.

I have heard from several sauces that the Houston golf association wants to take over memorial, renovate it and host the Houston open.

I am against it for a million reasons. MP is great track that is reasonably priced and isn’t too hard. Traffic would be a nightmare and there is zero parking around the course.

1. BlueJack will never host the tournament. Too far from Houston to make any sense and members who pay 90k to join aren't going to allow their course to be ruined for months after an event due to all of the tents and foot traffic a PGA tournament brings with it. The Hero challenge is a more realistic event for Bluejack.

2. The HGA doesn't like the management team at GCOH at all and wants more of the revenue that the tournament brings in. There is a 1 year deal for it to stay at Tournament course as a stop gap between it moving to Memorial Park. All players will be housed at Houstonian hotel and brought over for play, no locker rooms are needed doing it this way. MP is a stop gap place until a permanent one can found and the talk is that the HGA will build a course in Katy area which they own so they can run the event.

i'd be willing to bet the farm it's never played at memorial ... there's just too many changes/upgrades needed logistically, not to mention the golf course ...

where will they put the driving range? ... just about every hole needs additional bunkering ... the greens would have to be returfed, i would think ... just don't see it ...

have you played torrey pines? driving range makes MP look like an award winner. MP is just a temporary stop and yes I agree as a long term tournament it would need major overhaul but as a 1-3 year fix it would be a par 70 course and played relatively as is with a few minor changes.

Logistically it fits, all players across the street at the Houstonian. Traffic being bussed into the park and let off in 3 locations around the course.

All I know is that the tournament only has 1 year left at GCOH. I am a member of the sister club and they have told us its going but are coy about where because they don't want to steal the thunder of the new sponsor naming where it is going. Plus a few touring players have indicated that the word is MP.

Ultimately who knows with politics of the decision but I can see them (HGA) pushing hard for a temporary stop at a city owned course.

Parking at MP (golf course and trail) is terrible on a normal Saturday. I just can’t imagine how they’d accommodate the cars from the HO. Not sure where you’d “bus” traffic from, maybe some from the N Post Oak Park and Ride?

Hosting the US Women's Open in a couple of years. Don't think they'll be hosting a regular tour stop anytime soon
