The place in Porter is now called Oakhurst.
Hate to hear that. It use to be kept in perfect condition when the group from Belize owned it and before the homes were built on it.
I will say that I never seen a course with so many Copperheads on it.
I know my 4 iron took out 3 of them.

Where are you staying. That will greatly determine where to play.

I have never played Oakhurst. I am a PDP at Atascocita. Is it pretty easy to get a tee time at Oakhurst?

We are staying near memorial city mall but don’t mind having to drive 30-45 min

How was memorial? I played before the renovations and liked it back then, so I’d imagine it must be pretty great right now

Since you are staying off I-10 / Beltway area.
Blackhorse has 2 courses that are always in good shape.
Cypress Lakes is in that area and usually have good greens.
Not sure what kind of shape Longwood is in these days, but a decent layout.
If you want to try Memorial, you better get on their website now and try to find a tee time.

I live in Cypress and can address most of those courses you mentioned. Although I wouldn't say they are close to i10. Blackhorse is in good shape, but you pay for it. Cypress lakes is ok, and a bit cheaper than Blackhorse, but I still feel like it's overpriced. Longwood is in a weird stage right now. The price can't be beat, but they are in the process of getting rid of 9 of their 27 holes. I don't know where they are in that process, but the last time I played there it seemed like they were letting it go. When it's in decent shape, it's a good value and fun course.

Close to I-10 relative to public courses west of downtown and jump on the beltway to 290.
Meadowbrook Farms is another option on the west side.
We have lost 24 public courses around Houston the past 20 years.

Yes it’s pretty easy to get a tee time at Oakhurst except for the obvious high traffic times on Saturday mornings and such. They also get both the K Park and Porter golf teams every day so afternoons in the Spring after 3 are a nightmare, but like I said, it’s a borderline goat ranch now. If you are at Atascocita, I wouldn’t even consider the drive over. I actually thought about Atascocita as well but just said screw it and rejoined Kingwood CC.

Damn shame Oakhurst is in bad shape.
Such a good layout.

Good to know. I work in the front of Kingwood and often times at about 1 I think about playing. Oakhurst is right there but I can play Atascocita whenever for $20 and be closer to home. I will stick with it.

Can confirm Oakhurst is in trash shape as of November. Half the holes had pin placements that were based solely on the part of the green that was playable. No clue what the hell happened up there. It used to be solid.

Sucks to hear. I always assumed it was a nicer course.

Meadowbrook greens are in bad shape. Many of them hardly have any grass.
Not worth the money.

its been awhile since i've played there but Jersey meadow was a good value course. Seemed to be pretty well run but it has been over a year.

Nope as in it's in good shape?
or
Nope as in the greens are in bad shape?
I played there in Early December and can't imagine with the weather that we have had that they improved since then.

Don't get Meadowbrook Farms, their rates have always been out of whack and they continue to try to take it private.
If you going to charge members large rates, it better be in good shape.

The owner doesn't really put any money into the upkeep. I think he also owns River Plantation as well. He used to own Forest Cove but that is now a wasteland. The greens start to get a bad fungus in the Summer. It is almost every year they have massive die offs of turf on the greens and they never pump water out of the traps.
