My two teenage sons are finally getting into golf. Both got clubs last couple of months for birthday. Looking to set up a back yard net and mat for practice. Been looking at 5 star mats and their cage. But thought some of ya’ll may have some thoughts.

Not a good idea for a beginner unless you have a launch monitor. You could be ingraining all types of swing faults if you can’t see the ball flight. Just my opinion though.

No doubt. Totally agree. They play a good bit. We live directly on a 9 hole course and they can go out. But we are trying to work on some things...grip, posture, etc., and thought it might be a good investment. But i totally agree on bad practice is not good.

I grew up on swing nets without all the fancy BC. I respectfully disagree with Tyga woods.

My advice:

Not sure I agree with this for beginners.. I think the first stage is to learn strike , center of club head and not fat or thin ... you can learn this with a mat and net.

Path and face angle - can be improved after

I would recommend getting one with a bullseye at least... and I concur with the other suggestions regarding the launch monitor.. but at the beginner stage of their end goal is to be solid golfers as adults but not high level - why not do the net... may I also suggest this page...

Great golf tips

He is a Ben Hogan devotee but does it in fun ways new golfers can grasp :)

Not sure why you're being downvoted. This is 100% true

Let’s get back on topic. I’m interested to get a setup like this to practice in my garage. Should I just get a mat, net, and trackman and hook it up to a tv?

A trackMan is a 40-60k studio project to build the simulator either via them or DIY

I have the Rapsodo MLM. Absolutely love it on the range. Works great.

I have not tried the new upgrade that supposedly makes it work when hitting into a net.

I added a cheap "gym foam" layer underneath the hitting mat for my kids back when they were competing. They liked it as it made impact a bit softer.

I have the rapsodo, love it at the range. Typically it’s about 15 yards short into the net. They say a fix is coming but just my observation.

I have the spornia sp7 net and paired it with star commercial golf mat.
