I have been going to Golftec recently, and have a big issue getting too steep in my backswing. My coach only has me working on getting my backswing flatter and shorter.

Please send any videos/tips that have helped you out.

Thanks in advance!

Could be any number of things. Grip, wrist conditions, shoulder plane, posture, etc. Would need to see a video of your swing to offer any real help.

Top of backswingI'll try to get a video uploaded later, but my shoulder tilt is steep. Here is a picture at the top of my swing

To my eye, it looks like your elbows are separating. Focus on keeping your elbows closer together in the backswing...maybe put a nerf ball between them. Shoulder plane doesn’t look too steep to me

Wrists look okay. Maybe bring that elbow in some. Ever try to swing keeping a foam ball in between your forearms? Had an instructor suggest that to me one time and it helps me keep my right elbow close and flatten the swing a bit.

Isn’t your Golf Tec Instructor giving you drills to work on? If you plan on working with him, I’d do what he’s reccomending because chances are that’s not your only issue and the drills he’s giving you might be building towards the next step.

That being said, your position at the top doesn’t look to steep to me. It’s probably what you’re doing when you start down that’s the problem

I agree with all of this. Most golfers struggle with too flat of a backswing. OP, you seem to be in a good spot at the top....huge shoulder turn without coming out of posture....something most golfers would kill for. I think if you keep those elbows closer together in the backswing and downswing you’ll like the results.

Is there a ball flight problem you’re trying to fix or is it just aesthetic?

To be quite honest, I am about to request a different coach at golftec because all my current coach does is point out what I am doing wrong with no alternative. Our first two lessons have been me hacking away and hearing "You're still too steep".

He has yet to change anything about setup/grip/ or posture and has not given me any drills that I can take home with me.

Appreciate the feed back. I am going to the range tonight, will try swinging with club head cover under leading armpit.

My ball flight lately has been much lower than what I am used to, and my miss has been to the right (hook for me). So I can kiss hitting a well guarded green goodbye from 160 out.

Golf-tec’s business model is to keep you coming back.

That’s not your issue. You need something between the arms to keep them from getting farther apart at the top of your swing

Like this

You don’t need to spend $70 on this one...a cheap foam ball from Academy will work...or simply concentrate on keeping your elbows close together

Got it, will give this a shot. Thanks again, so ready to be confident over the ball again already.

Watch this video. Notice how his right (your left) elbow is in front of his chest at the top of the backswing.
Yes, golf is hard

Do you have a picture at address? You have a very narrow cone but your right arm is pretty much dead on the golf ball so as some have said its probably your transition causing the "steep" attack.
You have a very similar position to DJ at the top.
One way to flatten a downswing, the ball and headcover are good ways to do that but you could get a shaft and stick it in the ground about 1.5 feet to the left of the ball on the target line. Match that shaft angle in the ground to the angle you have on the picture. GO SLOW because you could really mess yourself up if you hit the butt end of a shaft at full speed.
