Just getting into golf and would like to start lessons before any bad habits form. Does anyone here have any recommendations?

If you are just getting into golf and can afford it, check out GolfTec. You can get an introductory swing analysis for like $125, think it’s a 90 min sales pitch. I did it and still go to GolfTec. Bad thing is the price, it’s like $80 for 30 min lesson. You buy packages of lesson credits, the more you buy it’s slightly cheaper. They also have expiration dates so if you don’t use them , they will expire. The upside is that the method is really geared for beginners, they teach fundamentals. And the camera system helps you understand your swing/body positions.

Also check out Nick Taylor Stack and Tilt on YouTube, he’s a GolfTec instructor who is geared for beginners. GolfTec doesn’t use the stack and tilt system specifically but they have a lot of similarities.

You have to be very careful with Golftec all teachers are not the same. Some are very good some are very bad.

I personally only went to golftec briefly to use their technology. I love learning with numbers and I wanted to use all the cool crap they had. Was my first introduction to launch monitors and the sorts.

What’s your reasoning for avoiding GolfTec in regards to a beginning golfer looking for basic fundamentals?

For an absolute beginner they may be ok but I would say you can get a very decent golf teacher at the local range for half what you will spend at golftec. At golf Tec you are limited to 30 minutes or so then they kick you out unless you pay additional for more time. At a local range you can spend all day getting better. For a beginner this is the most important thing. Getting better does not occur from hitting a bunch of balls in 30 minutes. It happens from taking slow swings and understanding the right motions. Think one ball every minute or two. I’ve seen guys at the range go through 100 balls in 15 minutes.

I also believe the tech is good. But seeing your ball flight, direction, contact from natural turf, etc is lost when you go indoors. Again, just my opinion, but without the above, you can create tons of bad habits hitting into a screen or net.

Just circling back and seeing all this feedback, thank y’all!

Not arguing but do you really think there is a major difference in ball flight off a mat then turf. Not arguing that some mats don't mask angle of attack but I would think it would effect ball flight that much off a high end monitor. Not to mention a lot of what I learn off a monitor is about path before contact which should be accurate anywhere. I am to the point where I can read the data without even seeing the launch and from the path aoa and face location know where the ball is going.
