First Time Lessons

Got a lesson scheduled for this week. I've never had a real lesson before. My dad taught me the basics and I've had some tinkering from friends or bosses who were good golfers, but never a formal lesson.
What should I expect? Dos and don'ts? Pro tips?
Truly a newbie on this front so suggestions as to etiquette and such will be appreciated.

Swing your swing. He’s not there to see how far or how well you hit it. So don’t feel like you have to put on a show and impress anyone. Let him know your most often misses and how those feel. Knowing what feels wrong to you can help him help you make adjustments. Don’t get discouraged if his tweaks aren’t producing immediate results. Make sure to ask about drills at the end. Sometimes they forget. You want to be able to work on things away from his eyes. I’ve found just about every teacher starts with the grip and then they could go anywhere from the feet to the hips to the arms. Just go with it.

Ask if it can be video-taped. If not, write everything down so you can remember later when you practice alone. A lot will be thrown at you.

This is all great advice. Especially the part about not expecting immediate results. You'll get results, but also realize that some initial tweaks might expose other swing faults. The biggest thing is whatever he tells you do, put in the work. That is the only way to implement the changes.

If the entire lesson can’t be recorded by the pro, film him giving you a recap of your lesson and what he wants you to work on.

Don’t feel married to them. I’ve had 2 lessons, one was awful and made me more frustrated, the other instructor had my issues mostly fixed in 10 mins.

Just an update. Lesson was last week and it went well. Took a lot of the advice from you guys. Guy gave me a couple tweaks to work on, nothing major, and I was hitting it fairly well after.
He did make suggestions for a big change to my swing, it's just not something I'm committed to changing because of the time involved and the limited improvement I'd probably get out of the change.
The only thing I wish was that the lesson was 30 minutes and not an hour. He gave me the best tips in the first few minutes, so it wasn't like it took him the full hour to diagnose me. I also got tired towards the end.
But definitely worth it.

were you on a trackman or flightscope?
Did you get to see yourself on video?

He had an iPad with video, so I got to see it. No trackman or flightscope, though.

You should learn the JuJu swing - it’s basically the Matt Wolfe swing - the guy teaching it is incredible and u can do it all online and through video lessons - 5 lessons and u will be cranking your 7 iron 160... if you want to get really good really fast - do this!
