I had a lesson recently and the instructor had me put my hips/butt on the back end of a chair. The drill was to keep my right cheek on the chair in my backswing and then transition to the left cheek through follow-through. I have a habit of pushing my pelvis in which causes some flare ups.

Are there any drills that I can do at the range to mimic this drill outside of bringing a lawn chair up to the range?

This is the drill

You need to maintain knee flex in your swing. I’d work on long bunker shots with quiet lower body and focusing on posture.

If you have a stand bag you can use that in place of the chair. Or possibly the bag rack/stand if your range has them.

You can also just focus on keeping the right arse cheek back (on the imaginary chair) for as long as possible in the downswing.

The thought of the left shoulder and hip working slightly down to start the downswing will also quiet the hips some.

Agreed, i had a habit of kicking my left knee out (like Bubba does) and then straightening my right knee. He has me working on squeezing my left knee in and keeping flex in my right knee. The chair (or other device) is so I can get muscle memory on the feel of keeping my hips back.

This is a good idea. Thanks.

This is what i'm working on, but I also like to have the feeling of a chair (or possibly bag) so I can focus on the muscle memory of that feel. When I did this at the lesson, the shots immediately after were perfect because I had that short-term muscle memory built up.

I went to the range afterwards to try and recreate that feeling and struggled with it.

I will try to put my back down and then put a towel over the headcovers which would maybe give me that feeling of the chair or a wall. Thanks for the tip.

Good point. Your right knee (for a right hander) should straighten some in the backswing. In the transition the first thing that should happen is to regain the flexion in that knee.
