Anyone cut a bit of length off driver shaft to gain accuracy? I have a new to me stealth driver and considering cutting off an inch and adding a heavier weight to the rear. I am hitting this driver about 260-280 carry and would give up 5yds or so to gain more control. Thoughts?

When I got fit for Driver, 1 inch shorter shaft brought my strikes closer to center. Gained a little yardage.

I just went through this same thought process. I know pros are playing shorter shafts, but they hit the center of the face at 120mph.

If you’re hitting it all over the face, it’ll help.

If there are times when you square it up and hit a nuke, don’t cut it. Just practice.

I kept mine uncut and am glad I did.

Remember that anytime you cut a shaft you make it a little stiffer and the swing weight gets a little lighter. But shorter typically means better contact. I recommend keeping it like it is and then just grip down an inch for a few rounds and see if anything changes. Also, swing with the same tempo as you do when swinging with your favorite club. Most people grip tighter, increase tension and swing harder with a driver. Smoother and center face contact is where it’s at. I see it every day.

I cut an inch of mine a year ago.

Was a gamechanger for me.

I find it much easier to consistently hit solid.

The notion of losing club a lot of head steed has been debunked. Some YT video showed a guy comparing standard driver vs 7iron length driver and he lost like 2mph club speed.

OP, I’ve done it before and here are some considerations
- shorter = lighter swing weight, so some weight may need to be added back to head.
- is it a counterbalanced shaft?
- consider picking up the same shaft in a 3 wood. Will be heavier naturally and affect swing weight less.

Good luck

ETA: golf Pride 25 grip will also add a few points of swing weight back.. I think you lose 3pts for every half inch you trim on non counter balanced shafts

I didn’t cut my shaft because I read how difficult it becomes to get the right fit when cutting.

I did however put a 3 wood shaft into my epic flash a few years ago and I’ve been sticking with it ever since.
