Good evening all,

Trying to find someone who can give a lesson or two specifically on driving and chipping. I’m trying to get my whole body involved in the swing (core, legs, arms, etc.) I’ve maxed out at about 260 using mostly upper body but by the time I reach the back 9 I’m poopoo dead and my drive distance drops pretty drastically. So I’m looking for someone to help me get a consistent swing going by using my whole body.

Also, my chipping is by far my weakest point of my game, so I need a lot of help with that too. I’m constantly hitting bunker to bunker and toeing*? The shots. Need help with any shot sub 40 yards.

Not sure if this matters in terms of which golf pros to suggest, but according to The Grint I’m a 16.2 handicap.

Pease forgive the ignorance, I’m new to the sport and am just trying to improve. Thanks fellas.

You can get a lesson for this, but it's all about practice. I'm guessing, like 95% of weekend warriors, you don't practice those shots.

That is an accurate statement, should I save the money on lessons and just practice?

Also, I don’t. Have a 60 degree. I only have a pitching wedge and a 48 degree. Ap1s

You need a 56* wedge! No 60* needed!

Take a lesson from an experienced PGA Professional.

Worth the $60-$80

Biggest piece of advice I’d give on chipping is don’t worry about trying to hit big flop shots with the 60 or 56 unless you have to clear a bunker or something. I’ve played on and off for a few years with the mind set of always trying to hit the “pretty” pga caliber shot.

Fact of the matter is I’m not close to being good enough at golf to pull that shot off consistently. You will shave tons of strokes by locking the wrists and bumping and running a PW or 8iron instead of trying to hit the flop.

It’s made a huge difference in my game in the last few months. Main thing is spend time on the chipping green practicing. More strokes can be dropped on and around the green then anywhere on the course.

I’ve picked up a lot of helpful pointers watching the Me and my golf videos on YouTube.

Larry Griffin at city park. I’ve been seeing him for a year and a half and I’m gone from averaging 105 to high 80s.

Something that might help you...pretend like you have a driver in your hands, get into address position facing a wall with your hands barely touching the wall. Take slow motion practice swings and return your hands to where they were at address without touching the wall with your hands before they get back to the address position.

Also, speed comes from using your arms more, not less.

LPGA players have faster hips than PGA players but don’t hit it nearly as far.

As far as chipping, it’s 90% setup. Find a good video on how to set up for a chip shot. Also, don’t stab at the ball. Make sure the trail arm doesn’t stall

Why? Do the research, I have.

Hold out your arms and turn your body as fast as you can. How much speed are you creating?

Dave Pelz short game bible did wonders for me. Still requires a lot of practice though. I used to take my short game to the lsu chip and put and work on it for hours.

I did a fitting with Buddha Nguyen at Bebu golf studio in Gretna earlier this week. He’s a cool guy and has an awesome set up... trackman, highspeed video capture, etc.

Best of all, it’s air conditioned.

Get a lesson first so you understand what youre supposed to do. Then just go practice a lot using that information.
