A decent short game would improve my scores dramatically, but I can't play enough to get it dialed in. I never had a good short game even when I did play a lot. I've hit 16 greens and shot 78 before

Where can I find the best lessons or drills online?

If I was just an average chipper, I would shave 4 strokes off my handicap I think.

I'm an 8 index and can't chip to save my life. I'll drop random 76-ish rounds, but that means I didn't leave myself any shots in the short game that I couldn't use my putter or make a full swing.

Its crazy because I was incredible at chipping as a youth, but can't seem to get the feel for it as an adult.

what normally happens when you chip?

how far away is the ball from your intended target

I'm talking fringe/rough from 30 yards and in (to the pin). I can use more of a fuller swing with the lob wedge outside of that range and I'm fine.

It varies what happens. I either flub it or skull it a few times a round. I've watched Phil's videos on chipping and it just doesn't help me much.

Phil's tips:
- Ball either in front or behind feet, never in the middle
- all weight on front foot
- hands ahead of the ball at address and through impact

I can do this on the practice green fairly well (albeit not great), but I have some sort of mental block on the course.

I am a lifelong golfer with a pretty damn good swing, I'm a solid putter, but I look like a straight up beginner sometimes chipping. I think I need sports therapy or something

The chipping yips are real , brother. I know.

I've never had putter yips, but if I get this same feeling on the green then I'm giving up the game.

Last week I skulled a simple bump and run out of the rough over the green into a hazard.

It was a little too thick to putt it, despite the ball sitting up high (and a sprinkler in front of it). I was up there in 2 on a 550 yard par 5 and it should've been an easy up and down for birdie.

Got a bogey.

Skulled chip over green, dropped, had to chip my 5th shot as well and it flubbed 20 feet short, made 20 footer

Yeah man, its really frustrating.

My golf pro suggested xanax

Thing is, I drink all the time when I play and I'm not anxious about it. I just can't get my hands to work.

I'd quit.

The most frustrating thing is that the easier shots are what bother me most.

Side-hill lie that I have to bump between 2 trees and run up a bank? Yeah, I got this.

3 feet off the green, on the collar and facing 15 feet straight to the hole? I'm taking at least 3 to get in from there

I agree with it's either a high or low shot. But some of Phil's stuff with the hinge and hold requires a lot of practice. It's easier to use the bounce vs using the leading edge

Yeah, I think I'm going to switch to this.

I have always been a leading edge guy that used a lot of check in my chips, but frankly I can't do it anymore.

I'm going to do a more sweeping action now, I've just got to practice.

I practice a lot on carpet in my room chipping balls from one side to the other. If you can chip off flat carpet, you can do it on grass pretty easily. Chipping and sand shots are the best part of my game now.

I will say that getting the right wedge for your swing helps a lot too. I went titleist and got a vokey wedge that was more suited to my swing.

I chip in my hallway all the damn time. It's mental for me.

I am going to switch to using bounce more. I think that will take my mind out of the equation a good bit.

My clubs are getting regripped today, so I'm pumped to go practice tonight after work.

ETA:

Z-grip, full cord. It is weird how excited I am to finally switch out the old, worn down basic Lamkins. I almost threw a couple clubs with sweaty hands last weekend

I can pinch the ball off of hotel room carpet and make it spin right or left, high or low.

On the course I turn into penis hands

When you say you can’t chip, what are your misses? Thin, fat, heel, toe, etc. or are you all over the place?
