Beaver Creek Greens

Does anyone know what in the world they did to ruin them? I know it's been terrible weather and coming out of winter, but I played Sunday and they have gone from some of the best public greens, to probably the worst greens I've played in BR. Lots of grass missing, and it wasnt patches it seemed like it was even distribution of patchy grass on the entire greens for a lot of holes.

If you think those are the worst in BR, go play Webb right now. There's grass on a few of greens.

It's hard to imagine something worse than what they were. I played Santa Maria last weekend and their greens held up 100x better over the winter.

Played Beaver yesterday and I was thinking the same thing. I know it was a wet winter but it was like half of the grass was gone throughout the greens. Hopefully by this summer they come back. It looked like there was some small tyne/aeration marks so it looks like they are taking steps to get them back.

Played Webb Saturday afternoon after the game, and holy shite the greens were in bad shape.
Course was extremely dry and my drives rolled out a ton though lol

I feel like it would be a wise investment to buy tarps or some sort of blanket to cover the greens during the winter when night time temps drop really low.

BREC isn't interested in putting out quality golf. They don't have to because the taxpayers fund them. Like any taxpayer funded entity they are not beholden to market pressures like providing a quality product. If they had to make real business decisions they would close courses like their independent study suggested. Then focus all their attention on the courses that make sense like BC.

It's what they didn't do that hurt them.
Probably didn't use a soil penetrant in order to move water through the soil profile. Probably didn't topdress in order to establish new medium. Probably didn't use a solid tine aerifier to increase percolation.
Doing none of that with how wet the fall/winter was is a recipe for disaster.
I say this without knowing what their greens drainage situation is, but I'd be willing to be any combo of those 3 items would have benefitted the greens.
As for greens coverage, yeah, they can be useful however, this winter we didn't see extended says with subfeezing high temps. Greens covers are a huge pain in the arse also. Who really wants to go cover a 4-5k sq ft green when it's freezing cold outside?
A time saver is using the irrigation to layer the greens with a coat of ice, if you're expecting freezing day time high temps. It accomplishes the same thing and saves you 6 hours of dicking around in the cold and wind.

Played this AM. Shaggy and not good. Not copper mill bad but you felt cheated on a few putts. Not a true roll.

Played it today. Greens didn’t roll true. Definitely needs some grass on em. Very bumpy
