The real issue is not all divots are shallow and sand filled. On my course, there are some trenches that I can assume a fighting position in for a WWI reenactment. These things are a foot long and two inches deep. I’m not sure who is making these, but they don’t even make a pretense of repairing them in any way.

I understand the pro rules, but the point of this thread was to say how dumb the rule is. You hit it in the fairway you should not be hitting out of a divot. Period

Folks who are artists with their club, fluffing that ball right and left to get the perfect lie on top of a nice piece of fluffy grass.
Then they tell you they shot a 76 the other day.
Did they? With perfect lies?
Golf is hard, play it where it lies. It’s fun trying to make shots out of hard lies as much as it is to place a ball in the perfect lie then act like you are scratch.
