How many days and what's your budget? Do you have a rental car? Where are you staying? Farthest you're willing to drive?
Happy to help but you people need some more details when you're posting about an area to play in.

Barton Creek
Canyon or Foothill - either course is more than serviceable

excluding the private clubs, focusing on public:
falconhead - out towards lake travis, very long. $75-150 depending on day
lions municipal - $30-50. older course, can be a long round but somewhat historic in the local golf scene
bluebonnet hill - $40 very well kept. some of the best greens. they dont allow coolers which is bullshite. if you are reading this
. but they do allow you to purchase beer for a marginal fee.
roy kiser/jimmy clay - kiser is more the links course. clay has some elevation and is a little more unique. $20-30
mo williams isnt great. $30
riverside worst condition, but cooler friendly. have played in large groups and gotten very drunk $40
colovista/pine forest. out a ways towards bastrop (east). also wolfdancer but $$$$$. very cool scenary, but not the best shape. pine trees/ large elevation changes.
the round rock courses (avery ranch, terravista, forest creek etc) are ok, but arent really memorable in any way
south austin - grey rock, onion creek and plum creek. see description of round rock courses
moral of the story: lots of muny golf can be had for reasonable prices. really cant go wrong

Lions is fun for the historical aspect. I enjoyed it.
Pine Forest down in Bastrop is worth the ride out. Awesome, cheap course.

Onion Creek is pretty nice. Lions is ok, nothing special. I’d personally pay a little more and go to Onion Creek over Lions, Roy, Jimmy or any other public course other than Barton Creek.

I've enjoyed playing at Teravista. Some holes lay out sort of weird, but their greens are exceptional right now.
I get the historical aspect of Lions, but after you get past that...it's a short course that is not maintained very well.
Clay and Kizer are really a good bargain for the muni course feel and should be in great shape right now after seeding a month ago.
I've always thought Crystal Falls in Leander was a hidden gem.
