Dude was an absolute stick. I played with him in a scramble in Shreveport years ago for work. We used every one of his tee shots.

I’ve been a scratch golfer now for about 20 years. Probably the most underrated part of golf is the grip, when I play with someone for the first time, I can look at their grip and tell if they are a good golfer. Watch videos on how to grip the club, if your grip is bad, nothing else really matters

Did this today. Added one other suggestion and I hit 90. I was just trying to break 100.

Grip the club in your fingers!

Yes!!!! Because if you grip it with the palms it interferes with release. Right?

ETA: I admit I played the forward tees today (as another poster suggested) and I did the practice swing twice (once for power, once for alignment) before every shot (also suggested in the grip video) It all went so much smoother with less thought.

1-2 handicap.

It took playing a long time.

Spend a lot of time chipping.
Then work your way back to 100 yards

Putting

Driving

I can’t believe it hasn’t been mentioned yet in almost 3 pages. It has been alluded to but not specifically said.

Mental game is massively important.

I am not a scratch player bc I started golf too late to dedicate the time and learn the muscle memory to really have great mechanics. That said, I was down to a 6.

I have always noticed my best rounds are when I stay positive no matter what happens. I may get angry for a minute or two after a shot, but if I can quickly move past that and back to believing I can still play well and make up for mistakes it makes a huge difference.

Hit my first birdie today. Shot a 98. I’m over the moon. Everything is straighter with more yardage. A lot less flubs and miss hits too. Gotta spend time on wife’s game before I can get back to mine though. She gets a bit jealous if I’m getting too far ahead of her.

My go to has always been how someone sets up to it. Granted, there are exceptions (Danny Green being the best player I’ve ever played with that didn’t have great fundamentals) but you can tell inside of 5 seconds when someone addresses the ball whether they can play or not.
