Im looking to join a club as a national member and have narrowed it down to these options but have no first hand experience on either PDCC or at the clubs listed on Dormie's site. Let me know if you have and what your opinion is please.

Dormie

Tough choice. Prairie Dunes is a really special place. I’d imagine if you’re a member there, you could probably barter for rounds at a lot of other places, so I don’t imagine you’d be giving up much by way of variety

I called and visited with their GM/COO Tuesday and asked that specific question and he indicated that the pro there with some flexibility of my time could probably get me on anywhere I wanted to play. I assume the big clubs like Augusta National and Pine Valley would probably be out but every other would be in the mix.

My only concern is it is 9 hours away and I truly would only play it 3 to 4 times per year. 2 fun rounds with friends for 3 or 4 days and then Member/Guest and Club Championship. Another good thing is the family and I could go because it has a pool and is a real country club.

As far as Dormie is concerned its owned by a 29 year guy and he plans to pick up clubs and refurb them into greatness again or pick up properties that are already at that point. However, it truly is a golf experience only so the family would not have anything to do on property. One real bright spot is the nearest one is in San Antonio so I could be there monthly.

Tough decision

Not a member but played Briggs Ranch several times. Great track in San Antonio. The owner of Dormie did just buy Wolf Point north of Port Lavaca, Texas.Wolf Point was some rich guy’s dream own golf course on his ranch. Dude died and the wife sold the course to the owner of Dormie. The property has its own landing strip. It’s an easy cater to Dormie’s high end members.

Google Wolf Point and you can find a few interesting reads about the property.

I know about it, it doesn’t have infrastructure to house anyone, no maintenance crew other than the ranch hands now so it would take a lot to get it going for the masses. I also talked to a representative about it and they said it may just be a track for the owner and his guests like it was for the original guy because of that, unless they are just keeping it on the down low now. In a recent publication it had a hole that was ranked in the best 18 holes anywhere.

We were members of Briggs growing up. Great track, just in the middle of no where. I think Gil thought people would move west before heading north (Boerne & Cordillera Ranch). Unfortunately they did and they have struggled to get anyone to move out there.

After looking through some of the other courses within the Dormie Network, if you are looking to travel a little these are certainly some sweet tracks vs one course.

The golf course superintendent at Briggs Ranch is managing both properties right now. He is whipping it into shape.

I played PDCC a couple of months ago with a buddy who’s a national member, living in Arkansas. Loved the course. While you can stay in the town of Hutchinson, the experience is much better if you get one of the lodges on site. From what I understand, you list your favorite weekends at the beginning of the year, and they have a draw for them. I imagine you could get dates you want if you’re willing to go during the week. I don’t know the fees for the National members, but I’m sure you’ve inquired. If it’s worth 3-4 golf/family trips of 3 days each, I would consider it. Certainly go play a round or two there before you decide.

Have a good friend in Dormie. Play Hidden Creek several times. Hidden Creed was designed by a member of Pine Valley as a quasi replica for people who can’t get on Pine Vally. I’ve played PV and it’s in the same league but obviously not PV. Good track.

Friend loves Dormie. Nice courses. Great shape

I wish that Dormie would come buy Greatwood in Sugarland and restore it to its former glory.

I guarantee if it was a great product they would have zero issues with play or a resident membership program.
