2 Month Update

Guys, wanted to give you all a 2-month update. I've been practicing at an indoor range pretty much weekly at least. Took a few lessons as well. I'm swinging the clubs REALLY well. I've only been able to play one round of golf and shot a 127. Putting killed me, but it was legit the first time Ive ever putted. I also shanked the first 5 holes and had to take drops due to being too excited and picking my head up.
Here's my problem. I'm 6'2" and need longer clubs. I won't reshaft my Calloway Steelheads, because I don't feel like it's worth it. How difficult is it to find a set of used clubs that are extended already, or should I just expect to reshaft/regrip? Or do I just bite the bullet and buy a set of Takomos with shafts?

Go to second swing or callaway preowned. Probably need plus 1 or 1.5. Plenty of options out there. May want to get fitted first.

You do not have to reshaft. They just need to add 2 inches to the club you have.
I did my wedges
Also I hate to tell you this but if you are shooting127 2 inches is not going to make you shoot 85. You might shoot 125.

Im aware. My irons werent my issue. It was putting and pitching. Unfortunately, I have no place to practice those except on a golf course. My front 9 was shite. My back 9 was actually pretty decent except for putting. Had a few attempts at birdie or par and just couldnt make the putt.

Former playing/teaching professional here.
Who told you longer clubs were needed? Have you been fitted professionally? If the answer is no, it may not necessarily be the case.
If you haven't been fitted, go get fitted IF you like the game and expect to play golf for many years. Do not send the time/money if you aren't sure yet. Same strategy goes for buying brand new golf clubs.

Okay, so heres where Im at with a fitting. I would love to get fitted, but I refuse to pay $1500 for clubs. While I REALLY enjoy the challenge of golf, my circle of friends doesnt really play. I've craved golf every weekend and even stopped at the driving ranges in BR a few times while in the area, but I've only been able to play a course exactly once.

Find a fitter and pay the $120 or so for a full fitting. It will be worth it for the data alone. Aside from that you can join the mailing lists or what not at some local clubs or ranges near you. They do “demo days” throughout the year. That’s also a good place to go to get some fitting advice without the obligation to buy.
Oh wait, you’re in Louisiana?
In that case drive out to the west bank and book a fitting with Buddha at Bebu Golf Studio. He will get you sorted out without trying to sell you stuff. Also 1.50 golf in Covington

Edwin Watts, PGA Tour Superstore, a local golf club shop can fit you for length, lie and shaft flex. They most likely will do that for free. Your not getting fitted for a whole bag of clubs. If you need longer clubs, you can put extenders in them as long as you don't need more than 1.5 to 2 inches added. They take the grips off and put them in the butt of your clubs and regrip them. Depending on what clubs you have, they can change the lie angle as well, either flat or upright. That is way cheaper than buying new clubs.
I will say that if you're playing Callawy Steelheads, they are most likely 20 years old and it would definitely behoove you to upgrade to say something around 5 years old or so. You can get those used at a real good price and maybe find them with the specs you need. You're shooting 127 so a $1000 driver and a $1800 set of custom fitted iron clubs won't help much. Spend the money on lessons.

Well if you want to take 25 shots off your total. Learn how to chip. Your putting will come around but chipping is a difficult part of the game that will bring your score down drastically if you get better at it.
