Sorry had to throw that in. I've haven't had a PS since the PS2 and then went over to Xbox and haven't gone back. I have borrowed a friend's PS to play the last Metal Gear. As far as kid's games go...I think they are all on both consoles. If he isn't going to be getting online and playing....go with the PS3

You have to go with the XBOX just for the Kinect. The ability to play a game with absolutely no controller is amazing and blows kids minds. No comparison, IMO.

The Kinect is a game changer, I know. But...I was able to get out of him that he has played both PS3 and Xbox at his friends' houses (some of them have both even) and he likes PS3, and I assume he could get online with them? I don't know if his friends have XBLive or not.
I have flip flopped on this more than once, going from leaning towards PS3, then to Xbox, and now back to PS3 I think.
I'm pretty sure he'll be happy with either.

I own both.
The PS3 is great for watching blu ray and netflix.
I do all my gaming on XBox.

Thanks to everyone. It turns out more of my son's friends were on PS3 and Game Stop had a pretty nice sale on them, so that's the route I went. If it turns out later that he wants to go to Xbox, then the PS3 will go in my man cave.
