I'm looking for new Xbox One headset, but can't figure out if I need to get an adapter or not. I have a new controller that I just bought a few months ago if that helps. I came here because I keep getting different answers on the headsets I'm looking at. Some people say you need the adapter and others say you don't.

If your controller has a 3.5mm audio jack input you don’t need an adapter. If the headset doesn’t have separate onboard audio controls for game audio and voice chat audio levels, I do recommend getting an adapter that has those controls. If I remember correctly you can adjust that in the settings of your Xbox but it’s a pain in the arse if you want to adjust it mid game.

Or you can alternatively go wireless. I’m not sure about other headsets but my Turtle Beach 420X headset had a USB transmitter that you plug in. It looks just like a little jump drive and it works on PC as well. You can also run a 3.5mm aux cord to your phone, computer, etc if you prefer a wired headset. Just be warned that if you use it as you’re charging it, the people you’re voice chatting with will hear a constant buzz in their ear.

I got a sennheiser with the headphone/aux jack its badass. I didn’t like my Bluetooth headset. I think most controllers take the standard aux input.

Thanks for the replies guys, that helped me figure it out. Some of the ones I was looking at were for all platforms, and they would require an adapter. I got some new Turtle Beaches that are made for Xbox so I’m good without it.

My last set of Turtle Beaches I really liked, but they were for Xbox 360 and the mic wouldn’t work without the adapter because the cord was too small. Haven’t bought a new set in like 9 years.

Go look in the other headset thread. Anything other than the combo of what carson said is wrong.
