Xbone won’t detect external storage.

Was playing a game online a few days ago, and the game froze/crashed. Did a restart on the console, and now it won’t detect my external harddrive. I have a few dozen games on there along with game saves. Is there any way to get it to work? I tried everything Xbox support says, but nothing is working. The harddrive comes on. You can feel the motor running and the light comes on. But no connection to the console.

Same thing happened to me today. Wasn’t showing any external storage and my HD was flashing so I unplugged it and then plugged it back in. Picked up everything after that.

Plug it into a laptop or computer. Sounds like the hard drive is shot. How old is the external storage?
I've got an external that does that same when I plug it in. Light comes on, sounds like it's running but the laptop never recognizes it

I’ve only had it a year. If the harddrive is shot, I’m just going to trade my Xbone in for a PS4.

Format the drive on a computer first. Not sure what format for the x, I would assume fat32, but look it up.
