It is usually automatic based off your router and ISP. There were a couple threads about how to "open" up your NAT last week or the week before. I'll see if I can find them and post the links

When I get on my Xbox, I try to use the least of my bandwidth as possible...whether it's on my phone or my comp.

Just a theory though

I think it is on the Main Menu screen or the Multiplayer Menu screen.

i'll have to login in to mine at home, but i'm pretty sure once you set it to static ip's, you can assign your xbox/ps3 to a gaming profile.

I live to far out in the country to get cable so had to settle with DSL. I have the highest I can get from AT&T (6 mg, I think) and I do have some lag on occasion, but nothing like some people I see jumping all over the map.

ETA: Like Proof said, ping seems to be more important.
