I loled at this.

But on a more serious note. More and more as ISP's back away from data caps on LAN/WAN devices and VNAND SSD's continue to drop in price will shuttle in the complete take over of a la carte from a menu gaming. Even more than it already has now.

In fact, stores like Gamestop might be on borrowed time at this point.

CDs haven't been used since PS1. PS4 and Xbone are using blu ray now.

Wasn't this the plan for Xbox One until people started losing their fricking minds?

No, their plan was to force gamers to always be online regardless of if they purchased the game physically, digitally, or via streaming service.

So like if you had a single player offline RPG that you bought on disc and your internet was down you would have been shite out of luck and couldn't play the game at all. Also, that game would be tied to your specific Xbox and you wouldn't have been able to take the disc over to a friends house to play it.

I predict the switch is going to happen in about 2014.

I haven't purchased a physical disk since I have gotten my Xbox One.
The only reason I still purchase physical discs for my PS4 is because digital copies will still sell for full price while unopened copies of the same game will sell for half that price if you buy physical. I mainly purchase digital games when I am buying near release time.
